closed terrariums

  • Your closed terrarium is a entirely self-watering system. In other words, you never need to add water for it to thrive!

Check for condensation, and if it’s too soggy, open briefly and let it breathe!

Rehydrate with distilled water ONLY if overly dry.

  • Keep your closed terrarium fresh by removing dead leaves and trimming overgrown plants to prevent mold and rot. Composting critters like springtails can help too! Available upon request.

  • This is where the magic happens! Let your closed terrarium thrive in a humid, balanced environment. A little misting or opening the lid occasionally can keep it just right.

  • Place your terrarium in bright, indirect light. Avoid harsh direct sunlight to keep things happy, unless the plants prefer it. North-facing windows are perfect!

open terrariums & bog planters

  • Designed to retain moisture but require occasional watering. These ones like to stay consistently moist.

Once you noticed the pool of water on the bottom has dried out, it’s time to refill. With distilled water, refill the terrarium (max ¼” of water at the bottom).

  • Let nature do some of the work! Remove dead leaves occasionally, or let them decompose naturally. It’s all part of the cycle!

keep an eye out for mold. allowing moisture to dry out or adding horticultural charcoal can help reduce mold and fungal growth.

  • These plants like a little moisture, but they’re less picky. Keep the humidity balanced for happy plants and avoid sogginess.

  • Give your open terrarium a spot with bright, indirect light. It can handle a little more exposure than a closed system, but avoid harsh direct sunlight.

potted & semi-hydroponic planters

  • These planters do most of the work for you! Just keep the reservoir topped up with water, and let the plants absorb it as needed.

  • Trim back any dead growth to keep things looking sharp. For potted plants, keep the roots and potting medium fresh by flushing the system* occasionally.

*Flushing the system washes away salt buildup that can harm the plant over time; this typically comes from watering with tap water. to flush the system, pour water over the plant's roots in the pot, allowing it to drain out completely.

  • With semi-hydroponic systems, the humidity is naturally controlled. Just keep an eye on the water level and refill as needed to keep things lush.

  • Find a spot with plenty of light for your plants—bright, indirect is ideal. If your system is in a sunny window, make sure it’s not too hot!
